Cus­tom Inte­ri­or Solu­tion for LEED® Sil­ver Cer­ti­fied Pub­lic Memo­r­i­al Library

The Bud Wern­er Memo­r­i­al Library, locat­ed in Steam­boat Springs, CO, is the first pub­lic library in Col­orado to achieve a Sil­ver LEED cer­ti­fi­ca­tion. The cer­ti­fi­ca­tion came about as a result of the sus­tain­able build­ing design and prac­tices that tran­spired dur­ing a ren­o­va­tion and expan­sion project. The ren­o­va­tion and expan­sion includ­ed trans­form­ing the main floor of the library into a beau­ti­ful com­mu­ni­ty meet­ing room and adding 25,000 sq. ft. of space to the orig­i­nal structure.

About the Solution

Lat­i­tude worked direct­ly with the library man­age­ment to cre­ate a flex­i­ble and func­tion­al inte­ri­or and exte­ri­or sig­nage sys­tem that beau­ti­ful­ly com­ple­ments the archi­tec­tur­al design. In order to cre­ate the right solu­tion for the library, Lat­i­tude imple­ment­ed its com­pre­hen­sive wayfind­ing, design and fab­ri­ca­tion pro­gram known as Sign­Plan™. Because the inte­ri­or archi­tec­tur­al design cre­at­ed a very open space, guid­ing vis­i­tors and staff through the library via an effec­tive wayfind­ing pro­gram was of utmost impor­tance. A key func­tion of the wayfind­ing solu­tion is to uti­lize direc­tion­al wayfind­ing sig­nage to draw visitor’s atten­tion and guide them to the dif­fer­ent areas of the Library. Accom­plish­ing this func­tion required cre­at­ing a cus­tom Pro­jec­tion Mount­ed Solu­tion for key infor­ma­tion signs.

Draw­ing upon the mut­ed earth­tone col­or scheme of the library’s archi­tec­tur­al inte­ri­or design, Lat­i­tude used a deep, rich brown as the base col­or of each sign to ensure the sig­nage com­ple­ment­ed the envi­ron­ment and allowed for a clear, high­ly con­trast­ed mes­sage. The com­plete cus­tom sig­nage solu­tion was fab­ri­cat­ed using key ele­ments from Latitude’s Infin­i­ty™ prod­uct line, Latitude’s InTouch™ ADA-Ready™ win­dow sign, mate­ri­als from Latitude’s Ter­ra prod­uct line, and frost­ed acrylic and stain­less steel.

The result is a func­tion­al and mod­u­lar cus­tom sig­nage solu­tion that guides vis­i­tors and staff effec­tive­ly and effi­cient­ly through­out the library.
