Archi­tec­tur­al Sig­nage For The New Gene­va Pub­lic Library Dis­trict Deliv­ers Big on Style

Lux­u­ri­ous Library

Tucked among a charm­ing neigh­bor­hood in Gene­va, Illi­nois, is a new pub­lic library that blends nat­ur­al archi­tec­tur­al ele­ments with a mod­ern aesthetic. 

The 57,000-square-foot build­ing has a vari­ety of meet­ing areas, a com­mu­ni­ty art gallery, and out­door read­ing spaces. It also fea­tures an enhanced children’s area and lab spaces for old­er stu­dents to use tech­nol­o­gy and learn new skills. 

Work­ing with the archi­tec­tur­al firm Stu­dio GC and the library team, our sign team was part of the design-build process. The archi­tec­tur­al sign pack­age was designed and pro­duced in-house and includ­ed exte­ri­or sig­nage, inte­ri­or sig­nage with dimen­sion­al graph­ics, donor wall sig­nage, whim­si­cal envi­ron­men­tal sig­nage designs for the children’s zone, and vinyl on glass. 

Exte­ri­or Signage

Cus­tom mason­ry and a graph­ics pan­el on the exte­ri­or mon­u­ment sign wel­come guests to the new Gene­va Pub­lic Library Dis­trict. On the build­ing, dimen­sion­al let­ters in alu­minum dimen­sion­al let­ter­ing com­ple­ment the stone exterior. 

“The build­ing is gor­geous,” says Dan Sala­m­one, our Chica­go sign expert. ​“The envi­ron­ment is very uplift­ing with great nat­ur­al light and high-qual­i­ty fin­ish­es through­out. We’re proud that our sig­nage designs could add to the library’s serene environment.”

Donor Wall Signage

A pub­lic library is a huge part of the com­mu­ni­ty, and the Gene­va Pub­lic Library Dis­trict want­ed to thank its many gen­er­ous donors with a donor wall. Our design team designed a two-part donor wall with acrylic pan­els on the wall and a dig­i­tal screen framed in wood to match oth­er mon­i­tors through­out the building. 

The dig­i­tal screen with­in the donor wall fea­tures major donors along with their bios and oth­er inter­est­ing infor­ma­tion. Paired with the dig­i­tal screen are donor wall pan­els that range in size depend­ing on the size of the char­i­ta­ble gift. This com­bi­na­tion of sta­t­ic and dig­i­tal sig­nage allows the library to eas­i­ly update the donor wall with future campaigns. 

Inte­ri­or Sig­nage Finds Some Fun

“My favorite sig­nage on this project is def­i­nite­ly the ​‘Kids Land­ing.’ The whim­si­cal designs real­ly set the mood and lead to the expe­ri­ence of the space for true envi­ron­men­tal design.” 

These unique design ele­ments were cre­at­ed with pan­els and graph­ics to cre­ate cus­tom looks and geo­met­ric designs. Like the struc­ture that sur­rounds the entrance to Kids Land­ing, invit­ing kids to get swept away into the fun-filled sto­ry­book area. 

ADA sig­nage, wayfind­ing sig­nage, and room iden­ti­fiers that suit the library’s con­tem­po­rary vibe were also designed and installed through­out the library.
